Wedding Registry Decisions

The hardest part of wedding planning for us was the wedding registry.  Your friends and family get to look at a list of items you want to build your home with and judge each item on there. Above that there are literally thousands of items to choose from. When you are planning a wedding in three weeks you don’t have time to go out and see and touch every item. In my quick visits to Dillard’s, Macy’s, Pottery Barn and William Sonoma there wasn’t much in store for us to try.

Honestly we had everything we needed. We both have lived alone and have lived together so the task of picking the right registry was a challenge. There were a few things we each really really wanted and a few splurge items we would never buy ourselves. A wise friend pointed out you need to think about all budgets. So I added a few things I didn’t really need but thought would be cool to have. Do I really need a set of linen napkins and cake icing spatula? Probably not but they will be useful for the occasional hosting.

Most importantly we wanted to make our registry as easy as possible for our guests. A friend recommended Amazon because two clicks and BOOM your gift is sent. Amazon was great for the standard Kitchen items, plus Amazon Prime members get free shipping which is always an added bonus.

We also choose Zola and really have enjoyed it. You are notified when someone gets you a gift and you can hold it until you are ready to ship it or exchange the gift for credit and buy something else on their site. If there is something you really want and it’s not on Zola you can also link the item to another website or as for the dollar equivalent from your guests. This was a cool feature that we used but ultimately none of our guests chose.  Most importantly Zola allows your guests to give you cash towards your honeymoon or really anything you want. Although Zola does charge a 2.5% credit card fee it is a cool way to give your guests an alternative to the standard wedding gifts.  There are also a ton of gift card options, such as Airbnb, wine clubs, blue apron and various airlines.

We just celebrated our one week anniversary and testing out some of our gifts today!
